The new Snow White is Ebony Black. This 2007 incarnation of the famed fairytale princess has got the red-as-blood cheeks and the evil, vain stepmom—though hers isn't a queen, but a rich lady who lives in the Hamptons. And rather than seven dwarfs, this princess's posse includes a band of hired household help and some hipster musicians. Her handsome prince is the lead singer of a band, and her escape is not to a forest but the East Village. Heck, she probably has a MySpace profile.Catch the full tale by taking your kids to see the new children's musical, Ebony Black, debuting tomorrow at the South Street Seaport. Laced with plenty of catchy song-and-dance numbers, it's also a way to impart little ones with a less stereotypical vision of what "fairest" means (since naturally, in the end, Ebony embraces her own intrinsic beauty). And honestly, the more familiar Snow White was long overdue for a makeover. Poison apples and wild boar's lungs and glass coffins? This version is much more likely to leave you with a happily-ever-after vibe.
When: Sat., 5/12, 5/19 & 5/26, 3pm; $10/Adults, $5/Children (reservations suggested).
Where: Seaport District Cultural Association Performing Space, southwest corner of Beekman & Front St., 212-242-6036.
