Famed photographer Mary Ellen Mark and well-known documentary filmmaker Martin Bell paid a special visit this morning to Ross Global Academy. In the audience were the entire first and fifth grades. Ms. Mark showed her poignant photographs taken in India of circus performers and Martin Bell showed his documentary film, Indian Circus. The first graders embark this week on their cultural-history unit on India, while the fifth graders are studying India now, as well. Most incredible to the kids were the images of child contortionists—which elicited audible gasps. Maya Shanahan of 1B gave a warm introduction for her "friends, Mary Ellen and Martin."
